When we began GRiF, the Global Risk Financing Facility, back in 2018, we really had no idea how much we would accomplish.

Uncertainty did not stop us. Our ambition was as big as the problems the world faces. Disasters force an estimated 26 million people into poverty each year. Climate change and will only add to this number, bringing bigger challenges than ever before.

This Annual Report documents activities from July 2019 until June 2020, detailing how we support planning in an uncertain world. There’s always more we can do. Together, and thanks to you, we will do it.

Enabling Early Action for Financial Resilience

A positive feedback loop for an uncertain future

GRiF, a Multi-Donor Trust Fund housed in the World Bank, was launched in October 2018 and has $200M+ in contributions from Germany and the U.K.

The World Bank hosts the GRiF Secretariat, which is jointly formed by the World Bank’s Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Program (DRFIP) and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR).

Support will be provided as a priority to the poorest and most vulnerable countries and for particularly innovative projects that help test new approaches and instruments.
